DERIDDER ELEMEMENTARY SCHOOL

2024-2025 SCHOOL-PARENT & FAMILY COMPACT

 

DeRidder Elementary School and the parents of the students agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve Louisiana’s high standards.

School Responsibilities

 

DERIDDER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL will:

 

  1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables students to meet Louisiana Student Standards as follows:
  • Align instruction with Louisiana Student Standards
  • Ensure that teachers/staff have acceptable subject matter knowledge and effective instructional strategies
  • Make certain teachers/staff have the materials necessary for instruction
  • Respect and address the individual needs of students
  • Use assessments to make instructional decisions

 

  1. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.  Specifically, those conferences will be held:
  • 5 Day Calendar: Oct. 25, 2024, Jan. 17, 2025, May 16, 2025
  • 4 Day Calendar: Oct. 25, 2024, Jan. 17, 2025, May 2, 2025

 

  1. Provide families with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:
  • Report cards will be sent home every nine weeks
  • Progress reports will be sent home midway between report cards
  • Provide copies of annual testing results

 

  1. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.  Specifically, staff will be available for consultation with families as follows:
  • Parent-teacher conferences
  • Teachers/staff will respond to parents’ request for contact within 24 hours, whenever feasible

 

  1. Provide families opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s school, and to observe schoolwide activities, as follows:
  • Parent/volunteer participation sign-up sheets will be in classrooms and hallways during Open House and Parent-Teacher Conference days
  • Parent volunteer/participation sign-up sheets will be available through take home folders.

 

 

Parent/Adult Family Members Responsibilities

We, as parents and caregivers, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

  • Monitoring attendance and ensuring timeliness and regular attendance
  • Monitoring assignments and grades
  • Openly communicating with teachers, administration and other school personnel
  • Participating, as appropriate, in decisions related to my child’s education
  • Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time
  • Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by reading all notices from the school or school district received in any form and responding, as appropriate
  • Serving when possible on policy advisory groups, such as the School Wide Planning Committee, the District Wide Parent Advisory Council, or other school advisory or policy groups

 

 

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, I will:

  • Attend school regularly and on time
  • Complete my classwork, assignment and tests as directed to the best of my ability
  • Take responsibility for my actions and my education; ask for assistance if needed
  • Continue the study of materials assigned or projects given outside of class time
  • Read at least 30 minutes each day outside of school time
  • Give to my parents or the adult responsible for my welfare any notification or information received by me from my school each day.
